Depiction of the star that can be the origin of magnetics. Ed. ESO/L. Calçada

From the last observation of the binary star HD 45166 and simulating by computer the evolution of one of the two stars, a hypothesis about the formation of magnetars is presented in the journal Science. Magnetics are dead stars, very dense and with a spectacular magnetic field. Its origin was not clear, but now it seems that it can answer one of the 45166 HD stars.

In fact, observing the binary star by spectropolarimetry and taking into account the observations made above, they have concluded that one of the stars is Wolf-Rayet type and that in addition to having two suns this mass, it has a very large magnetic field (43 kilogauss). So far, they haven't found any stars like this.

Simulating the evolution of the star, they suggest that it can explode like a supernova and turn it into magnetar.
